Do you have what it takes to launch a Startup?
Entrepreneurs are incredibly disciplined. They should begin the journey at a young age. Whatever the deck of cards dealt to you, we must be built to last with great formal and informal training, honed skills, and many years of practical experience.
Yet, anyone with the desire, imagination, and willpower can do it.
The first significant challenge is to conquer three essential components of your success:
- Cash
- Location
- Education
But First! Take a field trip back to school!
There are stories to be told about roommates knocking their heads together during college to put together a unicorn. A unicorn is a startup company valued at over $1 billion. Maybe the talented roommates grew up in the same town. They went to school together, studied the same courses, and perhaps, acquired teamwork by playing on a sports team. Maybe they played different musical instruments and formed a band. Online gamers dish it out and take it in all the time.
They acquired enough maturity skills to get along.
They acquired enough maturity skills to get along.
They stayed in touch through the years to share knowledge, discuss advances in their various realms, and explore opportunities.
Perhaps a unicorn consisting of a startup team met at an accelerator or incubator? Maybe they actively participated in Meetups, co-founder groups, and social networking events?
These friendships share many common ingredients. They bonded, earned mutual respect, learned to trust each other, let go of their egos, and figured out how to get along. They were disciplined enough to put together a great product or service and successfully launch it relatively quickly.
Today is a great day to begin the journey.
There are thousands of wild and crazy startups emerging all over the world. Several of them are sponsored by cities, states, and countries - foreign and domestic.
Established competitors are lurking about looking to invest in a startup for their subsequent merger, hostile take-over, or friendly buy-out.
Another option is to get pumped with massive doses of "galactic warrior spirit" to self-fund a fresh startup. A deeply embedded 'solopreneur' should acquire valuable skills to survive long enough to get to the next round and become the next great unicorn or cockroach.
An increasing number of entrepreneurs start a business with no intention of ever adding staff, selling, or merging with another company.
These entrepreneurs may not be the next unicorn and may never conduct business "in the clouds." Still, they become highly successful in just one "brick and mortar" endeavor - like a franchise, restaurant, or family retail business.
Qualified entrepreneurial fanatics are willing to sacrifice and risk everything. They are lonely people. Conventional job-dwellers don't understand them. They are a rare breed.
Maintaining healthy relationships and balancing your time during the early adopter stage is critical.
Efficiency (performance) and Effectiveness (results) are Key Ingredients.
During constant bombardment incoming from all directions, they must add the right mix of ingredients to win big-leagued.
The Casualties are Catastrophic unless...
-
- Since birth, the Startup Team has known they would launch a unicorn or cockroach.
The odds are still against them. - The Startup Team has been "battle-tested" early by great mentors and coaches.
The odds are still against them. - You are gifted like Steve Jobs, a talented leader, and have Woz, a capable follower, on your team.
The odds are still against you.
- Since birth, the Startup Team has known they would launch a unicorn or cockroach.
The odds of success are against you.
Startup Teams are cherry-picked.
Hand-picked Startup Teams emerge victoriously.
Your Startup Team has to outsmart them!
Startup Teams are not easy to put together. You must acquire the skills to get along.
If you want it bad enough, change.
Don't worry about them. Apply yourself.
